Caldicott, founded in 1904, is situated in 40 acres of grounds and playing fields adjacent to more than a thousand acres of open countryside, and is conveniently placed close to London between the M40 and the M4 and within 20 minutes of Heathrow Airport. The School is forward looking in its approach and the development of the buildings and playing fields is seen as a continuing process. The facilities are modern, well-designed, well-maintained and situated in and around the main building.
There is a high proportion of qualified teachers to boys. Classes are kept as small as possible and each boy is able to receive individual help and attention. Our teaching methods combine what we believe to be the best in modern ideas with the more traditional ways we know to be indispensable. All subjects necessary for the Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations to the Independent Senior Schools are taught. In recent years the boys have gained an impressive number of scholarships and all boys have passed Common Entrance to the school of their first choice.
The ethos of the school is very much that of a boarding school and all day boys are expected to board for their last two years at 11+. There is a strong feeling of family and community within the school, and a high order of warm, supportive pastoral care is at the heart of all that happens. Much emphasis is placed on creative activities such as Music, Art and Drama and every boy is encouraged to use his leisure time sensibly. A new music school has recently been completed. The principal games are Rugby, Hockey and Cricket. Other sporting activities include Swimming, Athletics, Tennis, Cross-Country, Basketball, Volley Ball and Gymnastics. The Sports Centre includes squash courts and a rifle range. The School has a fine sporting reputation which has been built up over the years. There is also a cub pack for the younger boys.
